A web browser is a software program that allows users to access, view and interact with websites and web-based applications. The most common browsers include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Apple Safari. Web browsers are an essential component of the World Wide Web, as they allow users to access and interact with the vast array of information and services available on the internet.

When a user wants to access a website, they enter the website's URL into their browser, and the browser sends a request to the server where the website is hosted. The server then responds by sending the website's HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files to the browser, which the browser uses to render the website on the user's screen.

Web browsers have evolved significantly over the years, and modern browsers can do much more than just display static web pages. For example, many web browsers now support complex web-based applications, such as online games, productivity tools, and social media platforms.
