Live visitors are the number of individual users who are currently visiting a website. Live visitors is an important metric because it provides a snapshot of the current level of engagement and activity on the website.

To calculate the number of live visitors to a website, a web analytics tool will use cookies to identify individual users. Each time a user visits the website, a cookie will be stored on their device, counted as a live visitor. If the user leaves the website, the cookie will be deleted, and the user will no longer be counted as a live visitor.
