Unique visitors in Google Analytics, now referred to as "users," represent the number of distinct individuals who have visited your website within a specified time period. This metric helps you understand the size and diversity of your audience, as each user is counted only once, regardless of how many times they visit your site or how many pages they view during the reporting period.

For example, let's say you have a travel blog and want to analyze your audience size over a week. During that week, you might have:

  1. User A, who visits your site once and reads three articles.
  2. User B, who visits your site twice, reading two articles during the first visit and three articles during the second visit.
  3. User C, who visits your site once and reads one article.

In this scenario, you would have a total of three unique visitors (users) to your travel blog that week. Even though User B visited your site twice, they are only counted as one unique visitor.
