Before we dig in I want to show you something. I promise it's worth it...

Google Analytics is great, but also complex and a bit clunky. If you just want a straightforward dashboard with the insights you need, GA is not a great place to start. Additionally, Google doesn't care about privacy and GA requires an annoying cookie banner.

That's why I built Simple Analytics, a privacy-friendly and simple analytics tool - no personal data, no cookies, just the insights you need in a straightforward dashboard.

Here is how it looks vs GA. Feel free to check our live analytics to get an idea for your project. (It's free btw)

All right, enough about us. Now let's get into answering your question!

Can you spot the difference between the dashboards?

What Are the Benefits of Google Analytics?

Integrating GA with your Popsy website offers several key advantages:

  • Understanding your Traffic: GA provides detailed information on how visitors find and interact with your site, including data on referral sources, page views, and user behavior.
  • Understand User Engagement: With Google Analytics, you can track key engagement metrics such as bounce rate, session duration, and pages per session. This can give you an idea of what content resonates with your audience and how you can keep it more engaged.
  • Goal Tracking and Conversion Analysis: Google Analytics allows you to track and analyze specific goals such as form submissions, sign-ups, or purchases.

Set Up Google Analytics

To integrate GA with your Popsy website, you will first need a Google Analytics account set up for your site. If you're new to GA, follow these steps to get started:

  • Create a Google Analytics Account: Visit the Google Analytics website and sign in with your Google account. If you don’t have an account, you will need to create one.
  • Set Up a New Property: Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new GA4 property, selecting "Web" as the platform type.
  • Obtain Your Measurement ID: Once your property is configured, Google will provide you with a Measurement ID (formatted as "G-XXXXXXXXXX"). Note down this ID, as it is crucial for integrating GA with your Popsy website.

Add Google Analytics to Your Popsy Website

Popsy simplifies the process of integrating third-party tools like Google Analytics into your website. Here’s how to add your GA tracking code:

  • Access Your Popsy Dashboard: Log in to your Popsy account and navigate to the website you wish to track.
  • Open the Website Settings: Locate and click on the settings option for your website.
  • Find the Integrations Section: Within the website settings, look for an "Integrations" section or a field where you can add custom code to your website.
  • Insert Your GA Tracking Code: In the appropriate field, paste your entire Google Analytics tracking code snippet. This code should include your unique Measurement ID and typically comes in the form of a JavaScript <script> tag provided by GA.
  • Save and Publish Your Changes: After adding the tracking code, ensure you save your changes. You may need to republish your site for the integration to take effect.
    • (Optional) Create New Properties: if you want to track multiple websites, create a new property for each of them and use the corresponding tracking code. This prevents GA from conflating data from different websites.

Verify the Integration

It's important to ensure that Google Analytics is correctly tracking your Popsy website:

  • Check Realtime Reports in GA: After integrating GA and publishing your site, visit your website to generate some initial traffic. Then, log into your Google Analytics account and navigate to the "Realtime" report to see if your visit is being tracked.
  • Troubleshoot if Necessary: If you don’t see any activity in the Realtime report, double-check that you’ve entered your Measurement ID correctly and that the tracking code has been properly saved and published in your Popsy website settings.

Final Thoughts

Setting up Google Analytics can give you great insights on how your website is performing. However, ask yourself: is Google Analytics the right tool for you?

GA is an overpowered solution for straightforward analytics. If you're looking for a simple and intuitive dashboard with the insights you need, there are better alternatives. Yes, I’m talking about my own product (Simple Analytics), but there are others out there as well.

I hated using Google Analytics for my projects. It's clunky, there are hundreds of dashboards and it doesn't look appealing. Also Google doesn't care about privacy or ethics. That's why I decided to build my own and more intuitive web analytics tool.

If this resonates with you, feel free to give Simple Analytics a spin. You just need to add the script to your website and off you go. This takes about one minute- and there is a free version as well!

Enjoy!
