    Custom domain improvements enhancement

We upgraded the infrastructure behind custom domains. We now use new software to automatically issue and renew SSL certificates, with improved certificate backups and monitoring to help keep things running reliably. No need to refresh them anymore, and on the first request, the certificate will be issued automatically.

Setting up a custom domain is clearer too. When you save your domain in the website settings, we check that your DNS points to Simple Analytics. If something is missing or the change has not reached us yet, you’ll see a warning explaining what to do. Once DNS is ready, we automatically request your SSL certificate.

    Authentication system upgrade enhancement

Wondering why you were logged out? We upgraded our authentication system. We now use an industry-standard library for authentication, making this part of Simple Analytics easier to maintain and more reliable going forward.

    Events Explorer improvements enhancement

We made the Events Explorer easier to work with, especially when you have a lot of columns or long values.

Fields that are too wide are now truncated so the table no longer causes horizontal scrolling. You get a cleaner overview without losing any data. There is also a new toggle to expand the table to the full page width, giving it as much room as possible when you need it.

And if a column is getting in your way, just hover over its header. A tooltip appears with the option to collapse it. Less noise, more focus.

API v6: histogram interval support enhancement

We introduced API v6 and officially added interval support, while keeping v5 unchanged for compatibility. In v6, hourly data separates day and hour, and week and month buckets use clear start dates with simple helpers. Yearly buckets follow the same pattern.

The v5 format remains as is, with one addition, a changelog array that highlights what will change when you upgrade to v6. We work hard to keep older versions functional, but we recommend upgrading to the latest version when you update your integration. For most users, these changes will not affect existing implementations.

Improved IP blocking reliability bug fix

We recently fixed how IP blocking works for Team plan users. Previously this lived at our CDN provider, bunny.net, which had limits and did not work on custom domains. It also blocked those IPs across all sites, not just a specific website. We moved IP blocking into our own ingestion app, where we already tag robots from known data centers. This is a better fit and lets us apply IP blocks per website, including custom domains.

API IPs have been changed announcement

If you access our APIs through a direct IP address, update it now. We do not guarantee a fixed IP, so we recommend using the hostname instead.

    Refresh your website icon enhancement

Many of our users strive to create the best website possible. This includes updating the favicon: the small icon visible on the website tab. While we periodically check and update the icon, we understand you may not want to wait after making changes. That's why we've introduced a quick refresh feature to ensure your latest icon is displayed immediately.

    Open referrals directly enhancement

Sometimes the small things are the best. We keep Simple Analytics simple, but we also add small features that make your life easier. Now there’s a button next to each referral so you can open the link in a new tab. Simple.

Download pageviews in Events Explorer too bug fix

Many users like the Events Explorer. Some asked for pageviews in the overview, so we added them a while ago. However, the download did not include pageviews. We have fixed this. Now the downloaded file shows the same data you see in Events Explorer.

    Infrastructure upgrade enhancement

We upgraded our infrastructure. We doubled our Elasticsearch cluster, so it can take much more traffic than we have today. Searches open faster, pages load quicker, and the system can process 10 000 pageviews per second with ease.

Backups finish sooner, monitoring is sharper, and retry steps work better. We added stronger VPN security and a new logging system too.

All data still stays on European-owned and European-based hosting. We are ready for the future.

    Delete created views enhancement

For some reason we let you create all the views you wanted but never gave you a way to delete them. It was like a hotel with no check out. But we get it, not every view deserves a lifetime commitment. So we finally added a delete button. Use it wisely.

    Improved team management enhancement

We redesigned the entire team permissions page to give you more control. Before, you could only add a team member to one view or all views. Now you can fine-tune their access. You can assign them to specific websites, update their permissions later, change their role, and even decide whether they get access to new websites automatically.

    Improved AI model enhancement

Since we launched our AI a year ago, the landscape has changed significantly. Today, we’re upgrading to the latest features and models. We now use OpenAI GPT-4o, the newest model available for Assistants. It offers stronger reasoning and runs a bit faster, making your experience even smoother.

    IP address blocking new feature

This allows you to exclude specific IP addresses associated with your offices or teams from being tracked in your analytics. By blocking internal traffic, your statistics become more accurate and free from noise caused by visits from your own locations.

Metadata goals show correctly in visitors' dashboard bug fix

Goals that used metadata didn't show up in the visitors' dashboard correctly. We changed the way metadata is stored on July 7, 2024. That part wasn't updated for this change. The visitors' dashboard now displays selected goals (that use metadata) correctly.

    Rename funnel to goal enhancement

For some users, it wasn't clear that our "funnel" didn't always have the same session. As a privacy-first analytics tool, we don't use cookies or the IP address of your visitors. To make this more clear, we renamed funnel to goal.

Enable email login even when an inbox was unreachable enhancement

Occasionally, an inbox might be unreachable due to being full, misconfigured, or other issues. Previously, our email provider, Mailgun, would add such emails to a bounce list, preventing further attempts to send emails to those addresses. Now, we automatically remove emails from the bounce list if a sending attempt fails, ensuring that magic links can be successfully sent even if previous attempts failed.

    Metadata fix bug fix

Metadata allows you to add extra information to your events and pageviews, giving you more in-depth insights and better tracking capabilities. Some customers experienced that some fields were missing and would sometimes come back. It was a difficult issue to solve, but we are happy to let you know that metadata is back even stronger. We can handle unlimited different keys in metadata without reaching any limits of our database software. This update is particularly important for customers who rely heavily on custom metadata fields for their analytics.

Live visitors works again bug fix

The live visitor counter was showing zero for private websites. We've fixed it! Click the dropdown arrow next to the number to see a list of live visitors, which actually shows pageviews. A green circle means a unique pageview; a gray circle means a repeating pageview.

    New team roles enhancement

We introduced a most requested team role: Analyst. This role allows a user in your team to edit dashboards, update goals, and visualize and export data. The read-only role has been renamed to Viewer to align with the other roles.

We have updated our team roles to better serve your needs. The roles now include: Owner/Admin (full control over settings and users), Analyst (manage goals and reports), Developer (technical settings and data resets), Finance Manager (billing management), and Viewer (read-only access). All users can still delete their own accounts. Additionally, we enhanced the permissions for the Finance Manager to include billing management without accessing analytics data.

Transfer websites to other Simple Analytics customers new feature

You can now easily transfer websites to another Simple Analytics customer. This feature allows you to move websites between accounts seamlessly. The recipient will receive an email to accept or decline the transfer, ensuring a smooth process. This functionality is ideal for agencies and teams managing multiple client accounts, or for those that are lucky enough to sell their business, simplifying the handover of website data.

New payment system, website views, and team roles new feature

In our latest update at Simple Analytics, we've introduced some exciting new features along with a revised pricing structure. Rest assured, your current subscription remains unaffected by these changes. We've eliminated several critical bugs to improve your overall experience.

One of the key new features is the ability to create individual views for your website directly from your main domain, functioning as filters. For instance, you can set up a dedicated view for parts of your site, like "/nl" for "simpleanalytics.com/nl". This allows for more targeted analytics by filtering the data specific to each view.

Additionally, we've rolled out a new roles feature that enables you to assign specific access levels to team members within your account. This means you can allow certain users to view data from a single website or view, while maintaining full control as an owner.

    AI became less lazy enhancement

Just rolled out an update to our AI. It's getting way better at finishing what it starts, cutting down on those times it might've seemed a bit lazy. For the technical people here, it's the latest OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo preview (gpt-4-0125-preview) model.

Fix in goals charts for total conversion rate display bug fix

For conversion funnels with more than two steps, we now display the total conversion rate, from the first step to the last. This correction fixes a bug where only the final conversion was shown, providing a clearer insight into your funnel's performance.

Improve metric for direct traffic bug fix

The metric for direct traffic included unique and non-unique page views. We now fixed that by only returning unique pageviews for all referrals. The total of referrals now matches with the total visitors you see in the key stats for that period.

Simple Analytics' AI - Chat with your analytics new feature

We started Simple Analytics to make analytics easy. Now we're taking this to the next level: Ask your analytics questions and get insights in real time. You can also use it to get help with installing Simple Analytics features.

    Filter websites in overview enhancement

Introducing our new search functionality: quickly find and share your websites, created directly from your feedback.

Now, if you're handling multiple websites or have long domain names, finding a specific site is easier than ever. The search feature becomes available when you have more than one website in your account, allowing you to filter through your sites swiftly.

Plus, the search query integrates directly with the URL parameter. This integration means you can share any specific search result with team members simply by sending them the link, making collaboration and sharing information with your team more convenient.

We're looking forward to your thoughts on this new addition and are always here to improve your experience based on your feedback.

    Improved websites' overview enhancement

Our updated website overview now displays both pageviews and visitors in a concise chart, making it ideal for those overseeing multiple websites. We've come a long way since our initial days when we couldn't even measure visitors. In addition to the pageviews metric, we've introduced real-time data loading for immediate insights, including today. This refined view keeps the familiar dashed lines representing the current day, consistent with the website dashboard.

Email report charts starting at zero enhancement

If you had a lot of traffic, the charts in the email reports didn't always start at zero. This gave a different view from what you saw in our dashboard. We decided to make the visualization of the charts the same in both the dashboard and the email reports.

Higher reporting on visitors for some www domains bug fix

We deployed version 11 of our embed script on May 5th, 2023. This script had an issue for websites that start with "www." and are not a Single Page Application (SPA). SPA's do not fully reload the page with every navigation, and for that reason, they were not effected.

It reported too many page views that were not unique to be unique. The amount of page views were not affected by this bug.

We fixed the incorrect historical data last weekend. This means that no data has been lost, and your dashboard now accurately reflects the data once again.

The script does not need to be updated because we solved the issue server side. However, you might have seen an influx of visitors from May 5th in your dashboard. We sincerely apologize and hope this did not cause any inconvenience. As we want to be as transparent as possible, we emailed every customer who was impacted by this bug.
